This initiative tackles barriers to help more women enter and stay in bus and heavy vehicle mechanic apprenticeships. Funded by the Victorian Department of Transport.
Women continue to face significant financial, systemic, and structural barriers to entering and completing apprenticeships in transport trades, resulting in persistently low gender representation.
Through the provision of scholarship funding and collaboration with the Women in Transport Steering Committee, the project fosters an inclusive, welcoming, and equitable environment that enables women to enter, stay, and succeed in their chosen trade
Working with industry, employers and government partners, the project combines targeted recruitment, scholarship support and practical workplace culture change to create safer, more inclusive pathways into mechanical trades and support long-term career success.
For participating employers, the program delivers additional benefits — including greater gender diversity, improved retention rates, and enhanced mental health and wellbeing among apprentices.
